Our musical director
Following the retirement of Denise Stout in December 2025, NCC were delighted to appoint Kris Thomsett as Musical Director from January 2026.
Kris began his musical career as an organ scholar at the King’s School Rochester where he learned the organ with Roger Sayer. Upon leaving school, Kris was organ scholar at Chelmsford Cathedral and then Norwich Cathedral, a post he held whilst reading for a degree in music at the University of East Anglia. Kris was then appointed organ scholar of Salisbury Cathedral, the last post he held before moving to North in 2015 to become Assistant Director of Music at Newcastle Cathedral. In this role, Kris is responsible for accompanying the cathedral choir for all major services, concerts and broadcasts. He also conducts the cathedral’s Schola Cantorum, Consort and Cambiata choirs.
Kris is in high demand as a freelance organ recitalist and accompanist, and has performed in many of the cathedrals and greater churches throughout the UK.
